Interior Cabinet Secretary Karanja Kibicho has accused Deputy President William Ruto of being out of touch with the government he serves.

Kibicho accused Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza team of making unnecessarily sensational remarks to prepare their supporters to reject the August 9, presidential election results.

Speaking during an interview in a local television station on May 30, Kibicho said Ruto had sensed defeat, as intelligence report shows that Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga will win the polls by 60 per cent of the votes.

The other day he (Ruto) was saying that if he becomes president, he will revive Kenya Meat Commission. Kenya Meat Commission was revived a long time ago. It is working

“We do not speak from emotions. We speak from facts, and that is what the data says,” said Kibicho.

Kibicho accused Ruto’s team of making irrelevant political promises to the people.

“The other day he (Ruto) was saying that if he becomes president, he will revive Kenya Meat Commission. Kenya Meat Commission was revived a long time ago. It is working,” said Kibicho.

He added: “He also said when he becomes President, he will reduce the price of fertilizer from Sh5, 000 to Sh3, 000, the government reduced that a long time ago to Sh2, 600, meaning that we have a person who has completely lost touch with what is happening.”

“This is a person who has lost touch with the government, and cannot sit down and pretend to know what the government is planning,” he said.

Civil servants

Kibicho is one of the senior government officials who have been receiving bashing from Ruto’s camp for allegedly involving in politics.

But Kibicho said as a civil servant, he has the right to inform the people on policies of the sitting government, and advise them on best political choices.

“Our work as civil servants is to do civic education. How people interpret this to mean politics is what I cannot understand,” said Kibicho.
