Kisumu Airport gets special certification before seven Presidents land

Kisumu International Airport (KIA) has received a s boost to receive international flights.

The airport on Friday received Aerodrome certification, giving a thumps up to its safety.

The certification approves the design, equipment and operational procedures after complying with relevant Aviation Standards And Recommended Practices (SARPs).

The procedures assures safe operations and supporting optimization of aerodrome capacity and efficiency.

The certification comes two days before the airport receives seven African Presidents set to attend the 9th Africities summit in Kisumu.

This will in turn provide an additional boarding gate area, arrivals hall and a landslide vehicular grade parking so as to increase the facility’s passenger handling capacity in readiness for the summit.

The summit runs between May 17 and 21, and brings together over 6, 000 delegates to discuss the development status of cities in Africa.

KCAA

Kenya Airports Authority Regional Airport Manager, in charge of KIA Selina Gor on Friday received the certification from Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Director General Emile Nguza Arao.

The re-certification which is valid for two years comes as KAA is currently extending the existing passenger terminal building at the airport.

This will in turn provide an additional boarding gate area, arrivals hall and a landslide vehicular grade parking so as to increase the facility’s passenger handling capacity in readiness for the summit.

Several dignitaries from all over the continent have jetted in the city with a number expected on May 17.
