Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has asked area voters to elect him one more time.

Nyong’o who is seeking a second term in office says hopes to complete ongoing projects before he can get back to the lecture hall.

“I wish to assure the people of Kisumu that I am committed to serving them as I look forward to a second term and then I will go back to the university and teach,” said Nyong’o, a former University of Nairobi lecturer.

The Governor will be facing among others former East African Community Chief Administrative Secretary Ken Obura for the ODM gubernatorial ticket.

The incumbent termed his opponents as rumor mongers urging his staff to work and not concentrate on them.

“Let us work. Leave those rumour mongers to continue rumour mongering. Waendelee…,’’ he said.

Until 1987, Nyong’o was a professor of Political Science at the University of Nairobi and a visiting professor in universities in Mexico and Addis Ababa.

He later took up the position of head of programs at the African Academy of Sciences before joining active politics.
