Muranga Senator Irungu Kangata seems to have changed tune over hard stance that Deputy President William Ruto must pick a running mate from Mount Kenya in the August 9, polls.

Kangata, while responding to journalists during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party National Delegates Conference said their main agenda now is to

“It doesn’t matter who is on that ticket, whether it is a person from Mount Kenya, or outside Mount Kenya, it doesn’t matter really,” said Kangata.

“Our main agenda is to address the issues affecting mwananchi, issues of bodaboda, mama mboga, poor farmers. It is nolonger about who gets what,” he added.

Kangata’s sentiments come barely two days after he claimed in another media interview, that Ruto’s running mate must come from Mount Kenya.

The debate on the running mate has continued to build tension in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, with Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala igniting the debate when he said the position should go to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
