Doctors at the Aga Khan University Hospital performed the first ever penile implant procedure to  correct an erectile dysfunction.

The procedure was performed on a 44 year old man who has been battling impotence for several years and has tried other methods of treatment without success.

According Dr Ahmed Yousef, a consultant urologist and the lead surgeon in the operation, the entire procedure took about an hour and it involved implanting a prothesis device in the penis.

Dr Yousef further noted that analysis on the patient showed that he was suffering from severe venous leakage and the implant was the appropriate solution for him and he is now able to have an intercourse.

“Through this procedure the erectile dysfunction condition has been treated. If he had an issue with premature ejaculation,it will also be treated by this procedure,” said Dr.Yousef.

This is the first time the procedure has been done in the country with the experts saying that 15 to 20 per cent of Kenyan men suffer from erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.

The lead surgeon also said that the process comes with the advantage of improving intercourse success rate to around 95-97 per cent.

“The advantage of this procedure is that the man can have sex anytime they like without using medication….this is whenever he wants as long as he wants in any style he wants wherever he wants and the success rate is 95-97 per cent,” added Dr.Yusuf.

The entire process costs between Sh800,000 to Sh 1million
