The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has received Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and 30 Members of Bundoma County Assembly in a major defection.

DAP-K which is Azimio la Umoja’s key partner in Bungoma unveiled the new members on Friday during a rally held at Posta Grounds in Bungoma County.

Led by Governor Wangamati, the defectors attributed their decision to quit relations with ANC and Ford Kenya parties to the decision by their former party leaders to work with Deputy President William Ruto.

“When Mudavadi and Wetangula decided to work with Ruto, we could not define our value in Ford Kenya,” noted Governor Wangamati.

“We, therefore, thank the DP for removing the two distractors from our path because we can now see more clearly the path ahead,” he added.

The defectors were welcomed to DAP-K and into the Azimio la Umoja Movement by the DAP-K party leader and Member of Parliament Kanduyi Constituency Wafula Wamunyinyi, Water CS Eugene Wamalwa, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya among a host of other leaders.

Wamunyinyi promised to work with all like-minded leaders to drum up support for the party and a Raila Odinga presidency, a narrative echoed by majority of the speakers.

“We are proud of this baby (DAP-K) because within two months we have managed to increase our membership in parliament to nine,” he noted.

The leaders also dismissed Ruto’s Bottom Up economy approach, saying devolution is the best governance style which requires a little more strengthening.

“I have been in the devolution docket for some time, and I can tell you there cannot be any economic model in the present-day Kenya that can be as successful as devolution. That is why we must support Raila for president because with him in office, devolution will be in safe hands,” said Wamalwa.
