Date:

Share post:

The letter, circulating widely on social media, purports to show Siaya Governor James Orengo tendering his resignation, allegedly due to personal health challenges. The document, dated August 4, 2025, is addressed to the Speaker of the Siaya County Assembly and bears the county government’s letterhead along with what appears to be Orengo’s signature.

“The decision has been necessitated by personal health challenges that require my full and immediate attention. After extensive consultation with my family and medical professionals, it has become clear that I am unable to discharge the demanding duties and responsibilities of the governor’s office to the best of my ability,” notes the letter.

Governor James Orengo has been off the media for quite some time which has left people wondering where he is.

But is this letter really from Siaya Governor James Orengo?

VERIFICATION

A closer look by the  Lake Region Bulletin team using our AI FACT-CHECKER TOOL reveals some abnormalities with the letter.

The Kenyan coat of arms at the top of the document appears misaligned and lacks the usual visual consistency seen in legitimate government stationery, as demonstrated in the image below.

Even more suspicious is the signature section. Upon magnification, the signature appears to have been digitally inserted. It lacks the natural ink smudging or compression distortions typical of a scanned signature. The pixel resolution and alignment with the surrounding text are inconsistent, suggesting the use of photo-editing software.

Further, the Siaya County Government Press has termed the letter as fake on their Facebook page.

Siaya Communication Director Victor Marende has also flagged the letter as fake. In his Facebook page, Victor wrote, “By all means, shape and form, this letter is fake. Ignore it”

VERDICT

After a thorough verification, the Lake Region Bulletin has established that the letter doing rounds on social media purporting that Siaya Governor James Orengo has tendered his resignation is Fake.
