Marsabit County is one of the arid areas found in Northern Kenya. With long and devastating draughts, human beings and animals alike face similar suffering in search for food and water. Some perish in the process, as seen in the photo where a buffallo got stuck and died in Qarmaddha Water Pan in Ijara. In North Horr, one old man, Dabaso Kontoma Sora, a retired Forester is choosing not to sit and watch things get out of hand. With the understanding of the worsening situation due to Climate Change, Mr Dabaso has been sourcing for drought resistant tree seedlings which he distribute to nearby schools, government institutions and individuals to grow in a bid to increase tree cover to reduce the impacts of Climate Change.

In North Horr Girls High School, a small forest is coming up courtesy of Mr Dabaso’s efforts. His mission is to have the entire region covered with trees to help contain the extreme weather condition in the area. Here is the pictorial story as narrated by DENISH OCHIENG
