The Kisumu County Government has introduced an electronic money transfer system to aid in the transfer of funds allocated for bursaries.

Speaking during the distribution of Sh102 million bursary funds on Wednesday, Penina Onyango, Education Chief Officer said the move will go a long way in ensuring efficiency.

“The electronic system will enable us to track money and know exactly how it moves and who is the recipient,” she said.

She further added that the electronic system will also help with record keeping for future reference.

The system which will render the cheques obsolete is also meant to make work easier by reducing the amount of time needed to release funds.

“The days of signing thousands of cheques are over,” Onyango said, adding that it was also a way of dealing with corruption and improving security.

At least 33, 000 students benefited from the bursary and scholarship funds disbursed during the event.
