Tuko and the DCI have termed the graphic fake.

A graphic with Tuko.co.ke branding on X purporting that Father Charles Kinyua has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for disparaging President Ruto during a mass is FAKE.

The graphic alleges that the priest has been summoned by the DCI over a video putting President Ruto in the context of a sermon about thieves conducted by Father Charles Kinyua that went viral.

The post reads:, “Lakini kusema ukweli dci wako na ujinga saana, I think ni cameraman who was supposed to be summoned.”

Translated to “ Just to say the truth, the DCI have a lot of foolishness, I think the cameraman was supposed to be summoned.”

The purported digital card has a picture of the said priest and reads: “Father Charles Kinyua Summoned by DCI over accusations Of Disparaging President Ruto in a viral sermon on thieves”

However, after a quick review of the DCI’s official Twitter handle, it was established that the graphic was marked as fake.

Moreover, a further review on the Tuko News Facebook account shows they also disowned producing the post.

In their post, the online news outlet wrote; “We’ve noticed false information circulating on social media, claiming to be from us.  Please note, if it’s not on our verified social media platforms, it’s NOT from us. Stay informed and trust only official sources!”

Additionally, a keyword search further established that there are no reports of the priest having been summoned in relation to his sermon.

Lake Region Bulletin has established that the digital card is fake.

This fact-check was produced by Lake Region Bulletin under the African Fact-Checking Incubator programme, with support from PesaCheck, Code For Africa’s fact-checking initiative, and the African Fact-checking Alliance (AFCA).
