Here is the list of world’s most paid sportsmen today


In developed countries, talent has proven that it can be a well paying hustle, way more than some white collar jobs offered in the market.

High profile sportsmen today take lucrative sums of money to their pockets weekly, regardless of whether they have made an appearance in the pitch or not.

According to Forbes, one of the high paying sports in 2022 include; Basketball, Football, American Football (NFL), Golf and Tennis.

Here, we take a look on world’s stop five highly paid sportsmen today.

5. Stephen Curry


Stephen Curry is a professional basketball player who was born and raised in Akron, Ohio.

He began playing basketball while in high school at Charlotte Christian School.

The 34 year old joined a topflight club in 2009 , playing for the Golden State Warriors, where he was recruited as a Point Guard ( a player who runs offensive and is usually the team’s best dribbler and passer).

The four time NBA player is tied to a contract with the Golden State Warriors, which will see him in the American club till the summer of 2024.

Curry earns an annual salary of up to £92.8M ( Sh.11B ).

He also take in allowances gained from his endorsements from companies such as FTX, Under Armour, Rakuten, and many more others, which pay him a total of £42M (Sh 5 Billion).

4. Neymar Da Silva Santos Jr

Popularly known as Neymar Jr, the Brazilian began his career playing for FC Santos in January 2009.

The former Barcelona forward is believed to be one of the most valuable sportsman in the world today.

The 30 year old attacker is currently on a four year contract that will keep him at the Parc des Princess till June 30, 2025.

In 2021, Neymar became fourth highly paid sportsmen in the world, after signing his contract extension with the Ligue 1 giants.

The contract extension paused a smile on the three times Ligue 1 winner, as he rose to earning an annual salary of £95M (Sh 11.4Billion).

To add on it, he gets an annual payment estimated to be around £20M (Sh 204BN) from his endorsers, who include; American Sportswear Giant Nike, Red Bull, Puma and many others.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese forward is an inspiration to many developing footballers around the globe, given his passion, hard work and the high level of fighting spirit he displays during big games.

Born in Madeira, Portugal, Ronaldo began his career at Portuguese Primiera Liga side, Sporting CP in 2002, before making a £19M (Sh.2 Billion) transfer move to Manchester United.

He has played in elite clubs across Europe which include; Real Madrid and Italian side Juventus, making the five time Ballon D’or winner one of the valuable sportsmen today.

In 2021, Ronaldo made a sensational return to his teenage club, Manchester United from Juventus, signing a two year contract worth £115M (Sh13.8 Billion) with the Red Devils.

To juice it up, he receives an annual payment of £55M (Sh 6.6 Billion) from his sponsors who include; Nike, DAZN, Herbalife, MTG, Livescore and many more.

2. Lebron James

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, USA, Lebron James began his basketball journey while in high school. He led St. Vincent- St. Marys High School to three state championships in four years.

In 2003, the four time NBA (National Basketball Association) champion signed for Cleveland Cavaliers, kick starting his senior basketball career in the US.

He previously played for Miami Heat in his profile on a four year contract before switching back to Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.

The thirty eight year old is reported to be the greatest basketball player of all time, and he’s currently the highly paid NBA player of all time with a gross annual salary of up to £121M (Sh14.5 Billion).

The Los Angeles Lakers’ forward banks and annual endorsement estimated to be around £55M (Sh6.6 Biliion) from grand sponsors who include; Coca Cola, Nike, Mountain Dew and many more.

1.Lionel Andres Messi

Lionel Messi is a prolific Argentine footballer playing for PSG in France. The 35 year old is esteemed to be the greatest footballer of all time, as he is a joy to watch in field.

The football prodigy is one of the most decorated footballers today bagging a total of 41 titles to his trophy cabinet.

Growing up in Rosario, Argentina, Messi began his sporting mission in Newell’s Youth, an Argentine club before making a free transfer to FC Barcelona Youth in 2000.

According to Forbes, the seven times Ballon D’or winner ranks top in world’s highest paid sportsmen today.

He earns an annual salary of up to £130M (Sh.15.6 Billion). He further enjoys an additional £55M(Sh6.6Billion) from his principal sponsors who include; Adidas, Ooredoo, Pepsi, Gatorade, Budweiser and many others.
