Lobby group urges teachers to take the lead on poll day

Teachers have been urged to take the lead in exercising their democratic right on 9th August general elections.

While addressing female teachers at Nyamasaria Primary on Saturday, Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) CEO Benta Opande challenged the teachers to lead the society on the poll day.

Opande further urged them to preach peace even as they make the right choices.

We also encourage them not to be afraid to express their democratic right and to vote for a person they believe has the mettle and purity to rid this county of the ills facing it

“We are encouraging the teachers to take the lead in preaching peace as well as guiding the community make the right choices,” she said.

She went ahead to state, “We also encourage them not to be afraid to express their democratic right and to vote for a person they believe has the mettle and purity to rid this county of the ills facing it.”

Opande also called on the leaders who will win the elections to consider women in government.

“We also call upon the leaders who will be elected to consider women in government,” said Opande.

The teachers were also sensitized on the guidelines and the criteria of transiting learners from Grade Six to Junior Secondary School.
