Raila donates land for setting up water project

Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has donated one acre of land for the construction of a water project.

The one-acre land situated adjacent to his Riat home in Kisumu West will house Otonglo – Riat Water Project.

Raila on Thursday handed over the parcel to Chairman of Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency ( LVSWWDA), Dan Omino.

Upon completion, the project is planned to serve approximately 50,000 people by addressing acute water shortage within the upper Western Corridor of Kisumu City including Riat, Korando B location and Kogony/ Kanyamedha areas

The event was also attended by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who termed Raila’s move ‘an act of selflessness.

“Upon completion, the project is planned to serve approximately 50,000 people by addressing acute water shortage within the upper Western Corridor of Kisumu City including Riat, Korando B location and Kogony/ Kanyamedha areas,” said Nyong’o.

Raila went ahead to precide over the groundbreaking of the project whose construction will be funded by LVSWWDA, starting immediately.

“The water is expected to serve 10,000 people by 2023 and over 50,000 people in the long term,” LVSWWDA said in their official Facebook page.
