Veteran journalist Joe Kadhi is dead

Former Nation Media Group Managing Editor for Media Group Joe Kadhi is dead.

The veteran journalist passed away at a hospital in Nairobi.

Various journalist took to social media to mourn the death of the print journalist with many describing him as a great mentor and guardian.

He was a great man. The phrase ‘publish and be damned,’ his mastery of the cardinal role of objective reporting and the nuts and bolts of journalism, will forever have a place in the history of media practice in Africa

“Sad day; veteran Journalist Joe Kadhi has passed on,” wrote Linus Kaikai, Director of Strategy and Innovation of Kenyan Television on Twitter.

“We have lost a mentor, professional guardian, legendary trainer and pioneer of golden generation,” he furthered.

Life Time Achievement Award

Kadhi had a distinguished media career and taught journalism at the University of Nairobi.

He later moved to lecture at the United States International University-Africa (USIU) where he retired after 20 years.

Due to his outstanding accomplishments, the Media Council of Kenya awarded him a ‘lifetime achievement award’ in 2015 during the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards.

“He was a great man. The phrase ‘publish and be damned,’ his mastery of the cardinal role of objective reporting and the nuts and bolts of journalism, will forever have a place in the history of media practice in Africa,” wrote Teddy Otieno, who was his former student.

According to his family, Kadhi will be laid to rest on rest on Thursday, June 30th according to Muslim faith.
