Rongo University students woke up to a shock after the body of a male student was found hanging on a rope tied on a tree near the students hostel.

The student identified as Collins Kipkirui, 23,  undertaking a Bachelor of Education course was believed to have committed suicide on Tuesday night.

At the time of going to press, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Gudu said they had not yet identified the reason behind the suicide.

He described the student as active.

Post-mortem

The VC said that the police and the parents to the student were promptly informed of the incident, and that they were waiting for the postmortem report.

The deceased colleagues said he was always a jovial person.

“We are treating the matter as normal suicide and there is no foul play at now, we will see the direction it takes with post mortem examinations,” said South Kanyamkago Chief Joseph Nyamanga.

The body was taken to Rosewood Mortuary.
