The once dilapidated Anderson Estate is set for a facelift with 1, 200 modern units.
The 15-storey Anderson Housing project to be undertaken by LAPTRUST and County Pension Fund (CPF) in conjunction with the Kisumu County government is set to be completed in two years.
The units are designed in line with both tiers of government (National and County) concerted efforts to provide affordable housing.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o said the housing project will give habitation in an environment that provides and supports their human dignity.
“It will not provide just a room to stay in like a slum somewhere, but a place you can feel at home. The demand for new housing units in urban areas stands at an estimated quarter of a billion units annually,’’ Nyong’o said during the groundbreaking ceremony held at the project’s site along Ngumbi.
Nyong’o observed that the project will provide much-needed employment to thousands of youth and women.
Inclusive housing
CPF Managing Director and CEO, Dr Hosea Kiili emphasized that the project launch marks a huge milestone in the group’s commitment to creating sustainable and inclusive communities that thrive on innovation and economic empowerment.
“In line with Bottoms-Up Economic Transformative Agenda(BETA), this is a perfect opportunity for the pension funds to provide decent and affordable housing, stimulate economic growth and spur industrial growth,’’ he noted.
He revealed that the partners have agreed that 40 percent of the project’s cost will be delivered by services and materials from county suppliers.

Governor Nyong’o
Peter Wasilwa the project’s architect explained that Anderson Park isn’t an apartment but a lifestyle development.
“It will have one, two and three bedrooms residential units, a commercial complex and all the complimentary amenities. The health and wellness centre will constitute an Olympic-size swimming pool, gym, and education,’’ he said by adding that the building will have a lot of green space.
The project will have one and a half acres of open, vibrant forested gardens for children’s recreation. This will make the parents monitor their kids from the balcony and ensure their safety.
The 250 metres upward developed units will also have 950 parking lots and a courtyard measuring 100 by 100 metres. The concept of street commerce is also embedded in the proposed project with retail shops created along the major access roads.
The event was also graced by Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili, Geoffrey Odundo (CPF), CECM Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Jerome Ochieng among others.
LAPTRUST Chair Mercy Mugo called for close working relationships between the partners to ensure the successful completion of the project.
“The groundbreaking is a testament to our enduring commitment to prudent investment. This project isn’t about bricks and mortar but building a secure future for our members, and contributing to the prosperity of our community and nation,” Mugo clarified.
This project, she stressed represents LAPTRUST’s enduring legacy and role in the development of Kisumu.
