Over 73 hospitalised, one dead after cholera outbreak in Homa Bay

One person has succumbed to cholera while 73 others are admitted at Sindo sub-county Hospital in Suba South constituency in Homa Bay county.

While addressing the press in his office on the state of cholera outbreak Homa Bay Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevine Osuri said they have put controlling measures ro help contain the spread of the disease.

Osuri said they have started the distribution of water guards for water treatment and are sensitizing the publics on proper hygiene and eating properly cooked food.

“Our main focus is in Wadiang’a beach where the outbreak started,” said Dr. Osuri.

“So far we have closed all the eateries and stopped eating in burials within Sindo,” he furthered.

Health Workers

Osuri said they have deployed out health workers in the community to help contain the situation.

“We are working with other stakeholders like chiefs, Beach Management Units (BMUs) officials and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to move from house to house to sensitize the community and conduct household tracing,” he said.

He called on the members of the public to take precautions and visit health facilities whenever they experience symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea.
