15 electric buses arrive in Mombasa as clean energy push continues

Kenya has received 15 electric powered buses.

According to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) this was the largest fleet to ever arrive in the region as plans to transition fully to clean energy continues.

The which buses arrived on Tuesday; November 29 were safely delivered at the port by BYD manufactures at Mombasa port.

“The buses were shipped by BYD Automotive; the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world,” KPA stated in a report.

The shipment comes after Super Metro announced they had ordered 10 electric buses in a move to replace diesel buses with electric ones.

Tracking

The new electric buses will be fitted with features that allow commuters to track their real-time movement. 

“We have actually ordered 10 more electric buses. Some are set to arrive in December and start operating in January,” Mwangi stated.

A successful trial had been conducted in the country and the two pilot buses are already in operation in Nairobi.

The 25 passenger buses will start operating in January 2023.
