Lower voter turn out as voting kicks off in eight electoral areas

Voting has kicked off in eight electoral areas including the Mombasa and Kakamega gubernatorial races.

 No major incidences have been reported except low voter turnout in the areas.

The elections were postponed on August 9th due to ballot papers mix-up.

The areas

Other area the Independent Electoral and boundaries Commision (IEBC) will be conducting the elections include MP races in Kacheliba (West Pokot County), Pokot South (West Pokot County), Rongai (Nakuru County), and Kitui Rural (Kitui County).

Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency (Meru County), and Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency, Nairobi County) areas will also be electing their members of the county assembly.

Initially the elections were to be held on August 23th, but they were again postponed after the commission cited intimidation and harassment of its staff.

Azimio-Kenya Kwanza face off

In Mombasa UDA’s Hassan Omar will be facing off ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir.

Others include Hezron Awiti (VDP), William Kingi (PAA), Daniel Kitsao (Independent), Shafii Makazi (Upia) and Said Abdhalla (Usawa Kwa Wote).

Fernandes Barasa of ODM and Cleophas Malala of UDA will be the heavy weights testing Azimio and Kenya Kwanza dominance in Kakamega.

Other candidates in the race are Suleiman Sumba (Kanu), Cyrus Jirongo (UDP), Michael Osundwa (Independent), Austine Opitso (Independent) and Samwel Omukoko (MDP).
