Governor Nyong’o: Give me another term before I retire

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Thursday, 21st July launched his re election manifesto ahead of the August election.

Speaking at Citam church in Kisumu,  Nyong’o urged his supporters to give him one more chance before he quits politics.

In his second term, the Governor pledged to complete the development projects he started in his first term.

“I am seeking for another term in office before i retire to complete the projects we started,” said Nyong’o.

As he seeks to retire in 2027,  Nyong’o will have had 37 years in his political career.

Political Career

The career dates back to 1992 when he joined parliament as Kisumu Rural MP.

He lost the seat in 1998 and was re elected in 2002.

Nyong’o was appointed Minister for Planning and National Development between 2003 to 2005.

The former Minister for Medical Service was elected Kisumu Senator in 2013.

In 2017 Nyong’o assumed office as the countys second Governor.

Second Term

In his address accompanied by his wife Dorothy Nyong’o,  his Deputy Governor Matthews Owili among various leaders from the ODM party,  Nyong’o said his aim  is to ensure  Kisumu has transformed into a formal sector.

“No one wants to be left behind, we are moving ahead together and developing this town to formal sector,” said Nyong’o.

He further lauded his wife for supporting his political career.

“Without my wife I would not be where I am today, ” said Nyong’o.

Nyong’o will be facing former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma who is vying on an MDG party ticket.
