Police to launch safety app for reporting security emergency cases

Insecurity has been on the rise in many places across the country.

The National Police Service will now be launching a safe mobile app in a bid to curb the menace.

The app which is under development will enable individual to report cases to all sub county commanders by downloading the app and shaking the phone whenever they are at risk.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Dominic Kisavi said the project which will be launched on 20th July in a bid to reduce crime rates.

“This project will ensure all Kenyans are assured of their safety and reduce the high rate of cases that has been on the rise recently, “he said.

Kisavi further noted that the project also aims at ensuring the victim reports the case without showing any suspicion.

“Alerts will be sent and be accessed by the commanders, the nearest police station as well as the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai,” he said.

“The commander in response will be able to track the report and come to the rescue of the individual,” furthered Kisavi.

No case will be left out, the app keeps all the record of the cases reported

He further revealed that if the commander in office is not able to access the report, national officers monitoring the app will be able to access the information and track the device.

The app also has features that allow the victim to keep a record of what will transpire and can use it as an evidence and for follow ups.

There will be a USSD code for reporting cases in real time for Kenyans who cannot access smartphones.

Kisavi also said that the Inspector-General of Police will monitor the app to ensure that all cases reported are attended to.

“No case will be left out, the app keeps all the record of the cases reported,” he said.
