Pilot who performed at KDF airshow dies in a plane crash

Mark Sampson, a pilot who took part in the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) airshow on Saturday is dead.

The South African national died on Tuesday while performing a similar show in Zimbabwe.

According to the statement from his team, Marksmen Aerobatic Team, the crew was on a return leg of a roundabout trip from Cape Town to Nairobi when the accident occurred.

Marksmen Aerobatic Team

The team further said the news of Sampson’s death came to them as a shock to them.

“It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that today, the Marksmen aerobatic team can confirm that Mark Sampson, outstanding aviator, honored team member, trusted number-4 and loyal friend, perished in a flying incident in Harare, Zimbabwe,” the statement read in part.

Kenyan Trip

The team performed at the Museum Airshow Festival which was held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

President Kenyatta made a surprise entry in the festival driving himself alongside the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

The team in statement after the festival hailed their Kenyan trip saying they were treated to exceptional hospitality.

“We were treated to exemptional Kenyan hospitality; We we fortunate to display highly skilled aviators from the Kenyan Airforce (KAF) as well as a number of other commercial operators including Kenya Airways,” read the statement.
