Kenya’s youngest MP John Paul Mwirigi has threatened to return a car that was gifted to him by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

The Igembe South MP has claimed that the car which the President gave him after the 2017 general election has been used as a subject of intimidation from members of the Azimio camp.

Through a Facebook post, the legislator noted that the President gifted him with no expectation of reciprocation and that the Azimio allies should not use that to blackmail him out of DP Ruto’s camp.

“First and foremost, let me thank His Excellency the president for gifting me a car in the year 2017. I am much humbled now as I was then,” he wrote.

“Secondly I wish to appreciate the president for gifting me wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return,” furthered Mwirigi.

The 28 year old MP cited that he is contemplating on returning the car for the sake of his peace of mind and independence.

If at all CS Munya is speaking for the President I may, for the sake of my peace of mind and independence, consider returning the gift. I will not bear the blackmail by the CS anymore

PAUL MWIRIGI

According to Mwirigi the leaders have been castigating him since he was supporting DP Ruto.

This came after Agriculture CS Peter Munya told the MP that he was betraying the president who gifted him a car by opting out for Ruto.

“You can’t insult an elder who addresses you as his son and bought you your first carout of love. You should reciprocate byb supporting him and telling the people the good things he has done for them,” said Munya during a meeting at Igembe Tea Factory.

In response Mwirigi said the remarks were being used as blackmail to pull him out of the DP’s camp.

“If at all CS Munya is speaking for the President I may, for the sake of my peace of mind and independence, consider returning the gift. I will not bear the blackmail by the CS anymore,” he said.

“My allegiance to His excellency DP Ruto will not change at all,” he added.

The legislator was awarded the Toyota Prado shortly after clinching the Igembe South seat on an independent ticket.
