Bruce Willis retires after being diagnosed with Aphasia.

American actor Bruce Willis is stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia.

Through an announcement on social media his family cited that the actor was quiting his career because of health issues.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” read the post.

“As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” it furthered.

Aphasia affects a person’s ability to express and understand written and spoken language as a result of brain damage.

Bruce started his career in the 1970s coming to public prominence with the TV series “Moonlight.”

He starred in over 100 films ‘Die hard’ being the movie that was his catalyst to his acting career.

The movie generated a huge amount of money to the box office. He has also starred on ‘The sixth sense’, ‘unbreakable’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Armageddon.’

Emma Heming the actor’s wife,also noted that this is a challenging time for them and appreciated the fans for their support.

“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him and we really appreciate for your love, passion and your support in this challenging time,” she said.

Throughout his career he won a Golden Globe award for best actor, two Emmy award for outstanding lead actor, Hasty pudding man of the year and people choice award for favorite actor in a new TV series.
