Members of Parliament have received Sh4.9 billion for their Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects just months to the August polls.

In a report presented before Parliament on the supplementary estimates, the Budget and Appropriations Committee (BAC) directed that the money be given to legislators as they seek to complete constituency projects before their term ends.

The parliamentarians have been pressuring the Treasury to release the funds to enable them complete stalled projects ahead of the polls.

This allocation comes just after the Treasury  announced that the CDF arrears of Sh4,976,500,000 for the 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2014/15 financial years would be included in the 2021/22 Supplementary Estimates.

Treasury Principal Secretary Julius Muia recently that the sum would be disbursed after the Sh.41.7 billion CDF allocation for the current financial year has been made.

The Treasury has been releasing Sh18 billion of the allocation in shares of Sh2 billion to constituencies every week and is expected to clear it by mid April.

“The balance as at February 17, 2022, was Sh18 billion which will be cleared by mid-April,” said Treasury PS Dr Muia.
