The race for Kisumu County Assembly Speaker is in the top gear as various candidates have emerged to contest for the post.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has however issued a statement on the election of the County Assembly Speaker amid confusion on who is likely to obtain the seat.
The Directive
Nyong’o said that the ODM party is still in a reflection mood and asked the Assembly leadership to wait foe a directive from the party.
That Directive will be issued soon in the same manner in which the 6 piece voting policy was given and which facilitated the election of all current party MCAs

“I wish to advise the Assembly leadership to wait for directives from the ODM Party over the Assembly elections,” read the statement in part.
“That Directive will be issued soon in the same manner in which the 6 piece voting policy was given and which facilitated the election of all current party MCAs,” it furthered.
A few selfish individuals have forced the Assembly into a near frenzy campaign mood, using money shamelessly to buy support, which is very embarrassing to the national party leadership,

The Governor further expressed his displeasure with the contestants who he says have been doing intense lobbying for the post with interested parties holding meetings with MCA-elects.
“A few selfish individuals have forced the Assembly into a near frenzy campaign mood, using money shamelessly to buy support, which is very embarrassing to the national party leadership,” said Nyong’o.
Office of the Speaker
The election of the speaker of a county assembly, despite being an independent decision of ward representatives, is still exposed to external influence.
In the hotly contested battle, Elisha Oraro will be seeking to defend his seat against Kisumu county liason officer Samuel Ongou.
Samuel Onyango who is an Advocate of the High Court and Trade chief officer Alphonse Ouya will also be seeking to be the next Speaker.
