President Kenyatta hands Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards Sh2 Million each

Kenya Premier League giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have received Sh2 million each from the President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The money was part of the Sh24 million pledge made by the President during the Mashemeji Derby game staged at the Kasarani stadium on 8th May.

Gor Mahia won the match 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.

The President had other engagements and the money was delivered to us by State House Controller Kinuthia Mbugua. We really want to thank him for this money will help us in settling issues of the club

K’Ogalo took home Sh1 million as a reward for winning the derby, where as their opponents bagged Sh500,000.

Gor Mahia Secretary -General, Samuel Ochola, has since expressed the club’s gratitude to the President for his financial support saying it will play a big role in calming their financial woes.

“We are very grateful to his excellency the President as Gor Mahaia,” said Ochola.

He went ahead to state, “The President had other engagements and the money was delivered to us by State House Controller Kinuthia Mbugua. We really want to thank him for this money will help us in settling issues of the club.”

2021/2022 Premier League

Gor Mahia finished at the third spot with 58 points in the 2021/22 Premier League season after 34 league matches.

Leopards on the other hand finished sixth recording 49 points, having played 34 league matches.

The two clubs are arguably Kenya’s strongest and most decorated sides.

Gor Mahia has won the Kenyan premier league title 19 times.

AFC Leopards has kept the trophy 12 times.
