Kericho residents will only vote for five elective positions instead of the usual six in the August polls.

This comes after IEBC cleared Beatrice Kemei as the only candidate for the Kericho Woman Representative seat.

Kericho IEBC Returning Officer Jackline Osiemo confirmed that Kemei was the only candidate who appeared before the commission for clearance.

“Mrs. Kemei is the only candidate who came forward and was cleared by the commission to contest,” she said.

“I will file Form 23 which the commission will gazette Mrs. Kemei as the only candidate for the Woman Representative seat,” she furthered.

UDA nominations

Kemei beat five other contestants in the UDA party nominations.

The former Arya Girls High Schoolteacher emerged victorious with 87,182 votes to clinch the party ticket.

After the nominations the woman representative race did not attract independent candidates as well as competitors from other political parties.

In her address, Kemei pledged to support and sprout groups for women and girls upon entry to office.

“We have an elaborate plan for women and youth empowerment. My office will provide financial and other support for organised groups and individuals,” she said.
