Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is free to run for Homa Bay gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

In a letter signed by the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, Kidero was declared after he proved not to be a member any political party.

“Pursuant of Article 85 of the Constitution and Section 34 (fa) of the Political Parties Act, 2011. Evans Odhiambo Kidero is not a member of any registered political party,” read the letter in part.

Kidero officially announced his candidature shortly after receiving the clearance.

“With this clearance certificate in my hands, I confirm to Homa Bay County electorates that I am now officially in the gubernatorial race as Independent candidate,” he said.

Gladys Wanga

Kidero quit ODM party following the pronouncement of Gladys Wanga as the party gubernatorial flag bearer for the Homa Bay race.

In the move to find Governor Cyprian Awiti’s successor, ODM leader Raila Odinga announced that all the aspirants in the party shelved the interest to support Wanga.

“Out of the seven contestants who were here, they’ve all agreed to step down and back Gladys Wanga as the party candidate in the Homa Bay County gubernatorial race. In the same spirit, they’ve also nominated her running mate as Oyugi Magwanga,” said Raila.

Kidero however refuted the decision by the party leader saying he was not consulted before the decision was arrived at.

  1. Kidero vs. Wanga. A battle between two Strong viewpoints: those who want the status quo to remain against those who feel Hb people should be left alone to decide for themselves. In between are undecided voters.
