The authentic covers had different headlines.

These images purportedly of the front covers of The Star, Daily Nation and The Standard newspapers’ 25 July 2024 edition are altered.

The purported headlines read: ”Dancing on graves” (The Star), “Raila’s Judas moment”

(Daily Nation) and  “The devil wears Kaunda and Raila is his tailor” (The Standard).

The images of the alleged front pages were shared after members of opposition leader Raila Odinga’s party were nominated for cabinet positions on 24 July 2024 after Odinga’s calls for dialogue and a broad-based government following youth-led protests in the country.

But did The Star, Daily Nation and The Standard publish the headlines in question?

Lake Region Bulletin looked into the claims and upon reviewing the media outlets’ social media platforms, established that The Star, Daily Nation and The Standard had flagged the covers above as fake.

The headlines of the splash story on the authentic covers shared here, here and here by the news outlet read : “Ruto,Raila new union to redefine 2027 race” (The star), “Enter Raila, the coalition king’ (Daily Nation) and “Ruto hangs on to Raila for survival” (The Standard) .

The posts also include links to the newspapers’ e-platforms here ,here and here ,where the latest editions are available.

A comparison of the fake and legitimate covers was done and it shows that only the splash headlines were altered.

Lake Region Bulletin has looked into images purportedly of the front covers of The Star, Daily Nation and The Standard 25 July 2024 editions and finds them to have been ALTERED.
