Jaramogi Hospital defends staff over claims of death from negligence

The ongoing inquest into cases of alleged medical negligence Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral (JOOTRH) has since sparked conversations online

This is after a viral video showed a man trying to confront the hospital staff for allegedly neglecting a pregnant patient leading to her death in the emergency room.

The Sunday 14th video which also shows a woman crying beside the deceased as the man confronts the staff has since brought a heated debate online with several individuals calling on the hospital staff to take responsibility.

Hospital report

An inquest that seeks to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of Josphene Akoth who died while receiving treatment at the Hospital have since followed.

Kisumu Health CEC Dr. Gregory Ganda together with Health officials from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital have however cleared the air of responsibility for the death of Akoth.

According to Dr. Ganda they had done investigations and after evaluating her treatment records it was established that she had died due to her ailment.

The hospital report revealed that Akoth, 25, was not pregnant as alleged in the video and had been transferred from Chulaimbo Hospital on Sunday at 2.00pm.

It further revealed that the mother of one had been battling sickle cell for a long time.

“From our investigations, the lady was not expectant but had other chronic illnesses,” said Dr. Ganda.

“She had her first test which was an ultrasound check, but was too sick to get the second test and was taken back to the casualties where she succumbed while receiving oxygen,” he furthered.

The family of the deceased distanced themselves from the man recording the video saying that they did not give him consent to record the video.

According to the mother of the deceased Racheal Ogola, Akoth was always sickling and had been diagnosed with pneumonia in Chulaimbo before being transferred.

“I don’t see the negligence of the doctors, they tried but she did not make it,” she said.

The deceased was a hairdresser.

JOOTRH CEO George Rae the men recording the video molested their staff and investigations are on going to identify and take action them.
