Former CS George Magoha back to class at Maseno University

Former Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha is back in class after five years.

This time not as a Vice Chancellor but as a senior professor of surgery at Maseno University.

Speaking to Lake Region Bulletin the varsity’s Director of Public Relations Dr Owen McOnyango said the institution’s School of Medicine will benefit from his experience and networks.

“It is a great thing to have an asset like him with vast experience and strong professional background and networks” he said.

He said the institution’s School of Medicine is relatively new and his experience will go a long way in benefitting both graduate and post-graduate students.

The School of Medicine was established in 2011 and was ranked best among public universities in 2021.

Experience

Magoha began his career as an intern in Surgery at Lagos University Teaching Hospital and rose to become Senior Resident and Clinical Lecturer in Surgery.

He later joined UoN as a Lecturer in Urological Surgery in 1988 and became a full Professor of Surgery in 2000.  

In 2005 he was appointed Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and served for ten years.

He left the position to become the chair of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and was later appointed Education CS in 2019.
