Former Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu has hit the headlines following his appointment as Education CS in President Ruto’s cabinet.

Machogu is set to take over from Prof George Magoha who many say has streamlined the Ministry of Education.

Magoha will be remembered for the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) as well as curbing exam leakages during his tenure as the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) CEO.

Following Machogu’s appointment various discussions have emerged online as to whether the man from Gussi land will fill Magoha’s shoe.

I am looking forward to transform the Education sector

The nominated CS vied for the Kisii Governor seat on a UDA party ticket but lost to ODM’s Simba Arati.

His CV

However his journey did not start here, Machogu started his tenure in the public service working as District Officer under President Daniel Moi’s administration in 1976.

He was then promoted to a Districtrict Commissioner (DC) from 1989 to 2008 before moving to the Public Service Commission  (PSC) where he worked as a senior deputy secretary, from 2008 to 2016.

In 2017, he contested for the Nyabari Masaba parliamentary seat and won.

He expressed his gratitude to President Ruto and Deputy Gachagua for giving him the opportunity to serve and vowed to do a good job if his nomination is approved by the Parliament.

“I am looking forward to transform the Education sector,” he said in tweet.

Honestly, My blood has refused that Machogu guy for the education docket. It was the most careless reward for the so called loyalty. I may be very wrong

Divergent Views

Kenyans took to twitter to channel their views.

In divided opinions some Kenyans thought Machogu was not a perfect replacement for Magoha while others congratulated him.

“Its first time hearing this name Ezekiel Machogu . I’m hoping he will deliver. Matiangi did recomendable job in the Ministry of Education,” wrote @Dahmerke.

“I’m sure there are many Kisiis other than Machogu that are more qualified to run the education sector but your tiny mind would rather reward an individual than get a competent person to do the job,” said @JackMwilu.

“Honestly, My blood has refused that Machogu guy for the education docket. It was the most careless reward for the so called loyalty. I may be very wrong,” wrote @Oyuko.

“Congratulations Former Nyaribari masaba member of Parliament Ezekiel Machogu Ombaki, you’re our new CS EDUCATION, we believe and trust you are upto the task,” said @PeterOmariTaabu.

Kenya has over the years seen the education sector grow and achieve great achievements under the leadership of Prof Ongeri, Dr Matiangi and Prof Magoha.
