Here is what transpired during Lakefront Governors meeting in Kisumu

Governors from the Lake Region counties on Thursday, September 9th met for the first time since the assumed their offices.

The Governors met at Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s to discuss on the progress of Lakefront Development Cooperation.

In attendance were Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Deputy Governor Gimunta Mahiri.

The cooperation has five counties namely Kisumu, Migori, Homabay, Siaya and Busia.

The meeting

During the meeting the leaders resolved that the five counties will constitute the formation of a technical sub committee that will spearhead the planning of the Lakefront Planning and Development project.

They further acknowledged the need to develop a joint initiative Lake Fund that will target the resources brought about by the lake and look into the income of people whose livelihood depend on the lake.

They also agreed to make Lakefront planning a regional development program and also improve the infrastructure of the regions.

Governor Wanga expressed her privilege to work with Kisumu Governor in the Lakefront project and that that was going to be a new beginning for the counties occupying the lake sides.

“Nyong’o is our big brother and me being here is not only to discuss issues of the Lakefront Development but am also in a learning mission,” she said.

She also noted that the lake is a resource the region has and if greatly tapped into into can improve the income generation in the regions.
