Inside the scenic Papyrus Wood Walk of Lake Victoria

Tourists find bird watching in the evening at the shores of Lake Victoria an interesting activity.

On a leisurely walk regular birders are assured of seeing at least 50 species in a day.

Shanice Adhiambo, the centre manager Papyrus Board Walk gallery says the main aim is to create a conduce environment for the water animals to breed.

The community based organization in Kisumu was contracted in 2015/16 by the French embassy to conserve the wetland.

The museum also has artefacts made from papyrus and water hyacinth.

The Luo artefacts in the museum which tell more about the culture of the community is a major source of income for the organization.

Pollution

Water pollution she says the major challenge they face as the tourists drop their non-biodegradable contents in the water.

“Tourist usually throw bottles into the lake but ewe have devised ways of controlling this,” she said.

The board work receives 20 to 30 people daily and up to 50 during the weekends.
