PSV’s to increase fares by 20 per cent after fuel prices surge

Federation of Public Transport Sector together with Public Service Operators (PSV) have on Monday 20th increased fares across the country.

This comes after the Energy and Petroleum Authority( EPRA) did a review of the fuel prices last week.

The fuel prices were increased by Sh9 across the board.

The federation hereby resolves that with effect from Monday, June 20,2022 fares payable on public transport vehicles countrywide shall be adjusted upwards by 20%.

The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has also asked its members countrywide to increase transport charges.

The increase

The Federation of Public Transport Sector said the move will affect all the routes countrywide, as per their recent price reviews.

They further indicated that most of the routes in various towns will see an increase of between Sh20 and Sh50 in the fares.

The cost of super petrol in Nairobi has increased by 5.96% since May.

Petrol now costs Sh159.12 per litre while Diesel costs Sh140.

Kerosene now costs Sh127.94.
