LAME BY DAY, NORMAL BY NIGHT: How Nairobi con beggars fake disabilities

Share post:

Like many beggars in the streets of Nairobi, this lady crawls around with pity, seeking for help from traders and travelers. Our Reporter Denish Ochieng followed her through the streets of Eastleigh Estate to Kariobangi, exposing her con game.

To appear needy, she clutches a young baby on her back, while moving on her fours whole day while claiming to be living with physical disability and homeless, speaking in low tone and sympathetic facial expression. When darkness sets in, she is seen transforming to a smiley, healthy and upright walking woman who can find her way back to her residence in Kariobangi Estate without any assistance.
