The complete footage shows the tap had water.
This post on X (formerly Twitter) with a video claiming that Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika launched a dry tap is missing context.
The post, accompanied by video footage, shows Governor Kihika opening a tap during the launch of a water project in one of the functions in Nakuru County. In the video, Kihika is surrounded by a group of people including a lady with whom she tries to turn on the tap.
However as seen in the footage, the tap did not produce water.
The accompanying post shared on 25 September, reads: “Drama as Corrupt Governor Susan Kihika launches fake dry taps then blocks Journalists from covering the event…Bure kabisa…Eti ebu tufungue tuone…Umeona sasa…The emotional Voters removed Lee Kinyanjui for this Clown”.
The caption on the clip reads: “Disappointment in Visoi ward as governor launches dry taps”
Was the tap dry?
A quick review of the official Facebook page of the governor shows another clip of the same event posted on 25 September 2024 where the tap actually produced water.
The video shows that both the governor and the resident had been turning the tap in the wrong direction and applying minimal force, which prevented the water from flowing through the nozzle.
On the fateful day when the video was taken, governor Kihika was commissioning the Kshs51.4 million Umoja Water Project in Visoi Ward, Rongai Sub-county.
Further review of the official Nakuru County Government Facebook page on the day of the project launch, shows a similar video confirming water flowing from the tap.
Additionally a keyword search on Facebook about the project brings up longer footage from the launch shared by a Facebook user confirming that the tap had flowing water.
Lake Region Bulletin (LRB) established that the video clip purporting that governor Kihika launched a dry tap was misleading.
