Nairobi is set to play host to a major global congress for agriculture journalists in October 2025.

Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA), a leading science journalists network in Africa has been awarded the rights to host the Ifaj 2025 congress set for October 14 to 18, 2025, in Nairobi.

The annual International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) congress brings together Agriculture journalists from across the globe.

IFAJ is a non-partisan, non-political professional association for agricultural journalists in over 60 countries.

MESHA, the number one science, health and agriculture journalists’ network in Africa and headquartered in Kenya, is a member of the association.

Switzerland is hosting this year’s congress which is focusing on the high expectations of society and take a look behind the scenes of Swiss agriculture.

Partnerships

Daniel Aghan, MESHA Secretary, is set to receive all the legal and ceremonial powers from IFAJ leadership declaring Nairobi as the 2025 congress host.

Mr Aghan underscored the benefits of hosting the event, noting that MESHA has already set up a committee to plan for the event.

“We are looking into partnerships to ensure that we make the event a success,” said Aghan.

He added: “We have already approached 40 organizations working within the agricultural and related sectors, and we are still looking for more.”

Apart from the agricultural sector, the event is looking into tapping on the related sectors, such as manufacturing, transport, finance, education, among others.

We will soon be providing further information on how delegates can register for the event, as well as other material highlighting potential benefits for the various sector players- Mr AGHAN

The event involves keynote speeches, debates, exhibitions, panel discussions and field visits of various agricultural activities.

“We will soon be providing further information on how delegates can register for the event, as well as other material highlighting potential benefits for the various sector players,” said Aghan.

The congress is hosted by a different member guild each year, and it brings together IFAJ members from all over the world.

The conference provides delegates with insight into different agricultural industries and practices, providing valuable opportunities to report, compare and contrast, improve knowledge and build networks.

The congress also provides the host guild with an opportunity to showcase ‘their’ agriculture to the rest of the world, while at the same time building and strengthening relationships with domestic associations, trade bodies and sponsors.

The theme for the 2025 congress is ‘Unlocking potential in the cradle of mankind’.

Canada hosted the even last year, with Denmark playing host in the year 2022. In 2020 and 2021, the congress was held virtually following the impacts of Covid 19.

USA, Netherlands and South Africa hosted the event in 2019, 2018 and 2017 respectively, with Croatia set to host the 2026.
