The final whistle of the match threw Manchester United fans to wonderland as the beat their old time rival Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Liverpool proved to be a stumbling block to the struggling Red Devils, with the two sides meeting just days after United had suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Brentford.

The two teams have had a limping start of the season as none of them had registered a win in their first two fixtures.

Poor start

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had registered two draws in their first two fixtures one against Fulham and another with Crystal Palace earning them two points.

I don’t have to mention that Maguire and Ronaldo are amazing players, and they will have a role in the future

Ten Hag

The Red Devils on the other side have witnessed a horror start of the season registering two loses in a raw for the first time since 1992.

United suffered a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford to Brighton on their premier league opener, before enduring a 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

However, Ten Hag made big changes to his first eleven side ahead of a rivalry showdown against Liverpool, as he dropped United’s captain, Harry Maguire and the five time Ballon D’or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench.

The Dutch tactician brought in Rafael Varane and his new signing Lissandro Martinez who proved to be the right center back partnership against Liverpool.

Who inspired the game?

However, Ten Hag took bit to praise two Manchester United stars whom he believes inspired his side to register the first win of the season.

I think Bruno Fernandes showed leadership together with Rafa Varane. They make a huge difference

Ten Hag

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the United boss praised Bruno Fernandes and Rafael Varane claiming the two brought leadership to his side.

“ I think Bruno Fernandes showed leadership together with Rafa Varane. They make a huge difference,” said Ten Hag.

“ But that is what they have to bring. We need more leaders. When you want a winning team, you need more leaders” Ten Hag furthered.

The Dutch boss went ahead to defend his decision of dropping Ronaldo and Maguire in the team’s starting line up.

“I don’t have to mention that Maguire and Ronaldo are amazing players, and they will have a role in the future,” he concluded.
