All schools are set to break for the general election starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha made the announcement, saying learning is expected to resume in schools on August 11.

As you are all aware, Kenya is scheduled to conduct its National Elections on Tuesday August 9, 2022, therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions with effect from Tuesday, August 2, until Wednesday August 10, 2022,

George Magoha

According to Magoha, the break will compensate for the mid term break.

“As you are all aware, Kenya is scheduled to conduct its National Elections on Tuesday August 9, 2022, therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions with effect from Tuesday, August 2, until Wednesday August 10, 2022,” read Magoha’s statement in part.

In a statement to the newsrooms, Magoha said this will ensure that preparations and conduct of the coming election is curried out seamlessly.
