Governor Obado

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado said that new market will provide better business conditions for the traders.

“I am happy that the Ombo market is now complete. It will address the issue of space for a better working environment,” said Obado.

The Governor further noted the surging Migori population and increase in demand for commodities as one of the necessities for a new market.

Obado acknowledged the challenges small-scale traders face, which affects their comfort at work.

“We want our small-scale traders facilitated to get a better place where they can sell their goods,” said the Governor.

New spaces

The market will now accommodate the traders who were evicted from Maridi market to pave way for the construction of the market.

Migori municipal planning chairman Joseph Nyambori stated that the new market will help decongest other markets within the municipality.

According to Nyambori, over two thousand applications were received against the available 480 slots.

“We considered those whose stalls were demolished in the Marindi market as well as those who applied for the spaces,” said Nyambori.

The traders will however wait for the complete installation of water supply before commencing trade.

“We urge the new slot owners to wait until we complete installing water. After which, they will be allowed to move in immediately,” Nyambori added.
