George Wajackoya’s Roots Party is sinking its roots in Nyanza.

The party has appointed former Kisumu gubernatorial aspirant Shedrack Okindo as its regional lead.

Mr Okindo dropped out of the gubernatorial race over what he termed ‘personal reasons’.

On Wednesday, Roots Party Presidential running mate Justina Wamae unveiled Okindo ahead of the party’s tour of the region.

His (Okindo’s) vast experience in politics and leadership has earned him Roots Party’s confidence to appoint him as our Nyanza Regional Coordinator,

“His (Okindo’s) vast experience in politics and leadership has earned him Roots Party’s confidence to appoint him as our Nyanza Regional Coordinator,” read a statement shared by Ms Wamae.

It went on; “We are delighted to have him on board.”

Okindo, born in 1979, is an artist by background and known by his stage name as Don Sultan.

Okindo political journey

In September 2019, Okindo announced his candidature for Kibera parliamentary by-election, contesting as an Independent.

He was graced to be among the top 7 out of 24 candidates.

And last month, he pulled out of Kisumu Governor race.

Okindo termed the appointment a great honour, saying he will use his grassroot mobilization skills to propel Wajackoya to victory.

Our first mission is to ensure a successful Roots Party Presidential campaign in Nyanza so that our people understand what the party has for them,

“Roots party is championing for what I have stood for; and that is empowering the lowest in the society,” said Okindo.

Okindo has since commenced mobilizing grassroot leaders, ahead of Roots Party’s tour of the region.

“Our first mission is to ensure a successful Roots Party Presidential campaign in Nyanza so that our people understand what the party has for them,” said Okindo.

Nyanza region is considered Azimio stronghold, but Okindo said voters in the region have the right to make independent choices on whom to bank on for servant leadership.
