One more term and I quit politics: Governor Nyong’o

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Saturday, 4th June launched his campaign to seek for a second term in office.

The launch was done at Kirembe grounds moments after he was cleared by IEBC to defend his seat in the August polls.

In his address Nyong’o said that this would be his last five years in politics if he is re-elected.

“I want to say that as I ask for your votes once again this will be my last 5 years in politics,” said Nyong’o.

Political Career

Nyong’o’s political career dates back to 1992, when he was first elected as Kisumu Rural MP.

He lost the seat in 1998 but was elected back in 2002 and served as MP until 2013.

The former Minister for Medical Services was elected as Governor in 2017 after serving as Kisumu Senator from 2013.

Nyong’o also served as the Minister for Planning and National Development from 2003 to 2005.

Second Term

Speaking accompanied by Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, Nyakach MP Aduma Awuor, Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu, Seme MP James Nyikal among others Nyong’o asked for another term to complete his development projects.

“I am seeking for a second term in office to complete the development projects that we have started over the last five years,” said Nyong’o.

Chege on the other hand wooed votes for Nyong’o as well as Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“This is Raila’s bedroom as you vote for Nyong’o make sure you vote for baba,” she said.

Nyong’o will be facing former Governor Jack Ranguma who vying on an MDG ticket as well as independent candidate Shedrack Okindo.
