Erastus Otieno popularly known as Flaqo is a usual face in the entertainment industry.

The online comedian was the talk of town during the Covid-19 period.

During this period, Flaqo otherwise known as ‘Otis’ says he earned himself Sh20 million.

Speaking during an interview with an online television station, the content creator revealed that he had plenty of endorsement deals during the pandemic period.

Adverts upon adverts. But I realized that it was leading me astray and I wasn’t enjoying myself. It was like I had sold my soul

“During Covid-19, I made a lot of money. I was taking every advert that came to me,” he said.

“I think inaeza kuwa imefika 20M during COVID, I don’t know because I have not been making those calculations but when I look at my records it has reached that amount,” he furthered.

The Break

However, Flaqo now says he was not enjoying this money.

The main reason why he took a break off comedy.

The more there is money, it takes away the artistic value and humour of my comedy. What matters to me is the art, before the money

“Adverts upon adverts. But I realized that it was leading me astray and I wasn’t enjoying myself. It was like I had sold my soul,” said Flaqo.

He went ahead to state; “It has been almost a year since I stopped shooting, and I took the break because there are a few things I needed.”

Online Criticism

Flaqo says negative criticism online bothered him despite ignoring them.

“There were so many voices I wasn’t used to hearing. Most of those voices were from social media, and they were tearing me down,” lamented Flaqo.

He further noted that the money he made derailed him and did not give him space for more creativity.

“The more there is money, it takes away the artistic value and humour of my comedy. What matters to me is the art, before the money,” he said.

Flaqo said Bien helped him get a counsellor’s contact.

During this period ‘Mama Otis’ says his dad was his greatest pillar.

“I thank God for my dad, who is a staunch man of God he gets on the phone and prays for me and I feel at peace.”
