IEBC: All presidential aspirants to be cleared from May 29 to June 6

All presidential aspirants will present their nomination papers to IEBC from May 29 to June 6 at the Bomas of Kenya.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati noted that the candidates will appear before the body for clearance.

Chebukati made the announcement during a pre-nomination meeting with all presidential hopefuls at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Monday.

“By 25th, a report will be generated to ensure the process is complete and this period cannot be extended given the strict timelines we have,” said Chebukati.

Aspirants are expected to comply with the law, we are following the Election Act to the latter

Clearance

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga will appear before the body on June 5 for clearance to contest in the August polls.

William Ruto who is Kenya Kwanza’s flag bearer will on the other hand appear before the electoral body on June 4 for clearance.

Chebukati futher stated that presidential aspirants with degrees from foreign institutions will obtain certification from Kenya’s Commission of University Education ahead of the clearance.

He also warned the aspirants of breaching electoral laws urging them to follow the electoral code of conduct.

“Aspirants are expected to comply with the law, we are following the Election Act to the latter,” said Chebukati.
