Mourning Kibaki: Kibaki’s body in parliament for three day public viewing

Former President Mwai KIbaki’s body is in parliament for a three day public viewing.

The late president’s body arrived in parliament few minutes before 7:30am on Monday and was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kibaki’s casket was draped with the the Kenyan flag and escorted to parliament with the military forces.

The former head of state body will be viewed from 8am to 5pm from Monday through to Wednesday.

Among the leaders who were present were Deputy President William Ruto, Chief Justice Martha Koome, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

Various Governors, Cabinet Secretariates, Members of Parliament and clergy members led by Cardinal John Njue were also present.

National State Funeral Committee chairperson Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had announced Friday as public holiday to allow for State funeral service at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi

Kibaki who died at 90, will be laid to rest in the Othaya family home in a private ceremony on Saturday, April 30.
