Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is the Wiper party candidate for Mombasa gubernatorial race.

Sonko was handed a direct ticket by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to contest for the seat in the August polls.

This comes after Sonko ditched the Jubilee party last month to join Wiper party.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Kalonzo noted that the former Governor was given the ticket after a consensus with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo who shelved his bid and has now been named as Sonko’s running mate.

“Our consensus efforts continue to bear fruit. The National Elections Board is pleased to announce that Mike Sonko and Ali Mbogo have agreed to work together to dliver Mombasa County Governorship,” said Kalonzo.

Kalonzo further expressed his confidence in their candidate who he says is sure of winning the race.

The race to succeed Governor Joho now turns to a three horse race as Sonko will face off ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar who is vying under the UDA party ticket.

  1. In my view, it’s still a ONE horse race. Hon Omar and Mr. Mbuvi will be sent home early morning. My friend Hon. Mbogo of Kisauni should have vied for the position of MP. Son of Nassir will beat the other two pants down!
