Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth has been impeached following an impeachment motion filed by Muhuru Ward Representative Hevrone Mahira.

In the motion, the Member of County Assembly accused the Speaker of mismanagement of funds, abuse of office and misconduct.

Of the 46 MCAs, 42 members attended the sitting presided over by North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba.

The impeachment came just days after the speaker was arrested on February 2, 2022 over allegations of breaking into the county assembly finance offices alongside seven other allies.

Two MCAs opposed the motion while two abstained.

The supporters of the motion said that the impeachment would bring sanity in the county to enable the ongoing development projects to be completed before the forthcoming general elections.

However, the opposers claimed that the speaker was not given a chance to respond to the allegations made against him.
